DESIGN AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS SCREENPRINT ANALYSIS

How can design and social movements throughout history be conveyed through screenprinted media?
With a semesters worth of knowledge about social movements throughout history and how design has impacted them, my partner Lydia Behler and I decided to talk about the integration that must happen between technology and the people that use it- and more importantly the people that don’t. The quote, “The thing of it is, we must live with the living” comes from an excerpt from the book The Medium is the Massage by Marshall McLuhan. It speaks to the significance of how technology progresses so quickly, but an important thought to remember is that we must live with the people that are still here, instead of looking everforward to a population that doesn’t even exist yet. It is a reminder to stay true to the physical (hense the portrayal of the untouched photograph of a flower) while honoring the digital (hense the pixelated representation of a flower).
